Whether you use your weapon on the job, for recreation, or for personal security, you have a serious responsibility in safely storing your gun. Even if you have no children in the home, keeping your gun out of the hands of those who shouldn’t use it is not only important, but a legal requirement. While storing the gun in a hard to reach location with a trigger guard is often considered a more affordable solution, a safe offers excellent protection against unwanted access, theft, and damage.
Which Gun Safe is Right for You?
Which gun safe you should choose depends on numerous factors, such as the type of gun(s) you need to store, and the main reasons you are locking it away. If you have several guns, or need to store large firearms such as rifles or shotguns, you may need a larger safe than if you are only storing a handgun. Aside from size, you’ll also want to evaluate the safe’s ability to protect your gun from damage from fire and water, and its ability to resist attempted intrusion. Regardless of your reasons for owning a gun, be sure to take the necessary measures to ensure that your gun is only used when, and by whom, it is supposed to be.

gun safes are important because I have to protect my kids from reaching the guns and rifles. I still want my gun safe to have fire protection and to be burglary rated and burglary proof. I also like the digital keypad for teh safe so that's why I chose Sentry G4311.
It is important to get a gun safe that also is fire rated and has burglary protection. The Sentry GT8423 that I purchased has a 30 minute fire rating and is protected against burglary. When you have kids its important to have a gun safe so that they will not be able to reach the rifles.
